Mohsen Sadatsafavi to speak at Heart and lung Fest 2015

C2E2's Mohsen Sadatsafavi will present at this year's UBC Annual Heart and Lung Fest on "Health economics appraisal – Making money work for you in heart + lung disease".

Medical sciences are progressing at a rapid pace and interventions to prevent, treat, or control diseases are becoming more numerous, complex, and expensive. How to improve patients’ experience of care and population health while containing health care costs (the Triple Aim of Care) is the dominant conversation among experts and leaders. At this event, Dr. Sadatsafavi will talk about the economic burden of respiratory diseases, the basic principles of health economics and health technology assessment, and the current potential "high impact" areas of research in which investment in better care and research is likely to result in substantial benefits to the society.

Learning objectives of the talk:

  • Recognize the significant burden of chronic respiratory disease in Canada and worldwide
  • Recognize the value of economic evaluation in health care
  • Identify potentials for reducing the burden of chronic respiratory diseases
