Internationally renowned arthritis researcher and health economist, Dr. Deborah Marshall, to spend 3 months at C2E2

Deborah Marshall, Professor at the University of Calgary and Canada Research Chair, Health Services and Systems Research is a Visiting Scholar at C2E2 on Research Leave until the end of March, 2017.

Her research program focuses on patient preferences using discrete choice experiments, patient engagement in research, and simulation modeling of health services delivery to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of health care services, particularly in musculoskeletal disease, digestive health and precision medicine. She has experience in technology assessment agencies, academia and pharmaceutical and diagnostics industry research settings.  Some of her ongoing research projects include a CIHR project on simulation modeling of osteoarthritis for Alberta and Manitoba, a CIHR project using a prospective cohort to define criteria to select appropriate patients for knee arthroplasty and assess their predictive validity for good outcomes, an NIH project on patient preferences for whole genome sequencing, and a EuroQoL project (with Dr. Nick Bansback) to test a decision aid to set patients’ expectations leading to improved quality decisions and more appropriate knee arthroplasty surgeries. She is looking forward to interacting with our team.
